Well, That's Disappointing.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off 1985
Honda CR-V Commercial 2012
If there's to be one statement that perfectly sums up why Matthew Broderick cheapening the legacy of his seminal role in a commercial for an overpriced family car is a bad idea, it's the bland heath and safety warning, "Professional driver on a closed course. Do not attempt".
Ferris, what's happened to you?

Bueller?... Bueller?... Bueller?!
If, like me, you found that to be the most baffling 10 seconds of your life, let me try and guide you through the facts. Released on the Youtube channel of chuckachucka2012 (chucka chucka being the name of that infamous vocal riff that's synonymous with Ferris Bueller and plays at the end of this clip), a user that joined this week with only this video posted, we're reliably informed that this short snippet is leading to a much bigger announcement on Monday.
Either the world is about to get extremely meta and Ferris Bueller is announcing his plans to run for President (as a Republican? I doubt it), or as that leaves us with less than a week until the commercial battleground that is the Superbowl, you can bank on it having something to do with that.
Whilst not a feature film, this commercial (for god knows what) will be for all intents and purposes a Ferris Bueller's Day Off sequel, which to be honest, I'm conflicted about. I'd love to see what the character is up to now, but not at the expense of trampling all over the legacy of one of the best films of the 1980's. I suppose that given the option, I'd rather see Matthew Broderick doing things like this than crap like Tower Heist and if Alan Ruck and Mia Sara also appear, I may just have a Hughes-gasm.
Save Ferris!

Alternate Movie History Goes Bananas
This week the Internet has been chock full of movies from alternate universes or revisionist takes on history that somehow don't quite add up, but that you'd definitely pay good money to see. First is the new one sheet for the promisingly titled Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter that you can see above. Next, from the awesome online gallery, Movies From An Alternate Universe comes this collection of movie posters for films that could have been.
As soon as someone invents time travel, let's let the Hollywood scriptwriters have first go on it. Seriously, who wouldn't want to see that version of Drive? All the posters are pretty special, and I can't recommend enough that you head over to the proper site to check out the rest of the collection in full. Finally, a trailer FDR American Badass!, a film that looks like it's a joke from some wacky cult sketch show you've never heard of, but (and I can't stress enough), THIS IS A REAL MOVIE.
It's the movie J. Edgar could have been, if only Clint Eastwood had been a braver filmmaker. Shoulda, woulda, coulda, Clint. Shoulda, woulda, coulda.
p.s. Thanks to Tom Hodge for sharing the trailer for FDR. I'd love to see him do a poster for it.

Not To Be Confused With... #3
It's pretty blatant, isn't it? From the quizzical, doofus faces they're pulling to the vivid colour scheme, it's quite obvious where the makers of A Few Best Men's marketing campaign looked for inspiration. However, in the battle of the Kevin's, Spacey takes Bishop.
But wait, there's more!
What the hell is a Boofhead?

Viral Infection
Straight from the Epic Movie school of celebrity endorsement, I present to you this attempt of viral marketing for the upcoming DVD release of the appalling looking film, Eldorado 3D.
This film has been a long time coming (I saw the original trailer a year ago and made my feelings about it pretty clear then), so much so that cast member David Carradine has had the good sense to be dead for nearly three years. Still, that left Steve Guttenberg, Daryl Hannah, Michael Madsen, Sylvester McCoy and Rik Mayall available to do some promotion for the film, and yet...
Incredibly, rather than stopping at that first abomination they've made a whole bunch of these insults to Youtube users, my personal favourite being the one with the dodgy Britney Spears lookalike who's incapable of speaking like a normal human being.
to the frankly terrifying image of this.

Sorry, when's the film out again?
Maybe in the future all marketing campaigns will be like this and Eldorado 3D will serve as a video essay for future filmmakers on how to market your movie, but then again, maybe not. Aside from the virals there's also a series of short trailers hitting the web, thankfully free of Captain Jake but trying to make some unfounded and potentially libelous link between this film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Blues Brothers. I can hear John Landis' and Richard O'Brien's lawyers rubbing their hands together with glee now.
Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star? Definitely not the agent who got him this role. Proof you can have too many fingers in too many pies, the self proclaimed 3D Horror Comedy Western Musical has decided to go for a different audience for its DVD release on January 30th, changing its artwork from the predictable blandness of this...
They say you should never review a film you haven't seen, but I'm going to stick my neck out and proclaim Eldorado 3D to be "THE WORST MOVIE EVER MADE". Prove me wrong, internet. Prove me wrong.

Not To Be Confused With... #2
To make their thievery even more delicious, on closer inspection it becomes blatantly apparent that the makers of Pressed have just taken the photo of Colin Farrell from the cover of London Boulevard and superimposed Luke Goss's head over the top of it.
Excellent work guys. I'll see you at the design awards.
