The Fabulous Bridges Boys

We all remember 1989's The Fabulous Baker Boys, right? Jeff and Beau Bridges living it up as a pair of brothers who are also swarthy lounge singers. Lovely stuff. It put Michelle Pfeiffer on the map.
As we all know Jeff Bridges won an Oscar this year, pronounced by many to be long overdue. But what's his elder brother Beau been up to recently?

Oh.

Still, at least he's still got a smile on his face. Kinda.
I'm not sure I'd be happy either if I was a man in my late 60's being second billed behind Steve 'Crocodile Botherer' Irwin's young daughter Bindi.

Nice Pirate hat though.

SLACKER trailer review

Trailers are an important tool in building buzz and anticipation for films. A good trailer can sell a bad movie, a bad trailer can kill a good movie. Here we try and tell the difference between the two and pick out the most anticipated new films.

If You Go Down To The Woods Around Christmassy Time

Awww Yeah! Shit just got real, yo. They've just released the first poster for the upcoming Yogi Bear movie starring Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake.
I love the fact that it looks like they've gone on a murder spree. All this poster is missing is some severed limbs and police tape.
It's a bold move to wear a shirt tie with no pants, but Yogi's definitely working it. Maybe no-one will tell him that it's weird because of his crazy psycho eyes.
I'm not so sure what Boo-Boo's looking so happy about though. What's he got hiding under that plate? Whatever it is it's put a smile on his face.

Dirty little boy.

Yogi Bear will be in cinemas this Christmas. In 3D no less!

Cruisin' For a Struzan

I think I've found a new personal goal in life. You can keep your Oscars... Put away your trips to the Moon... I want to own a piece of art by Drew Struzan.
If you're a child of the 80's you'll have definitely seen one of his illustrated film poster works, with Back To The Future and Indiana Jones being perhaps the most famous images, but now that I've visited his website at www.drewstruzan.com, I want a poster. In fact I want them all. Hit the jump for some more examples of his brilliance.

Legendary poster artist Drew Struzan has created a new poster for AMC's upcoming adaptation of Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead.

That's a bit nice, isn't it?

What's All This About Then?

For some reason Ridley Scott and Kevin Macdonald have teamed up to create this YouTube documentary, made for us, by us. All you have to do is upload some footage from July 24th onto YouTube and it might end up part of a big massive 'proper' documentary.

And I don't really see the point. YouTube works best when it's a small clip you're watching, that's why viral videos work so well. I don't really see why sticking them all together to make one big film would be a good idea. They'll only use the clips that are entertaining and not show the boring, ordinary parts like riding the bus or eating a pasty from Greggs.

So if you've got bugger all to do on Saturday you could film a snippet of your own mundane life for others to see (except they probably won't), and apparently you'll be credited as a co-director (not really).

Scott Pilgrim Vs Blogging Time

I currently own a PS3, a Wii and a DS, and I don't use any of them. My PS3 is used as a Blu-Ray player as I really don't have the time to play games that often.

However, some time around August 10th, I'm booking time off work for this...

So if any family members start to wonder where I've gone, now you know.

Anchorman: The Legendary Voice of Ron Burgundy

You may have heard that Paramount passed on making an Anchorman sequel a couple of months back. Ludicrous, I know. Adam McKay's being doing some press rounds this week for something else, but offered an interesting tidbit of what the film could have been. It could have been a MUSICAL.

As to why Paramount passed on such an interesting project... who can say. What I will say is that I can't believe they'd pass on the chance to listen to more beautiful music from these guys. Here's an example.

I think Adam McKay should seriously consider some cheaper options for making the film. I've managed to find these genius little videos that offer two perfectly feasible options for a cheaper sequel.

Problem solved.

Thanks to Youtube users Pedro Monscooch and stevefalz for the use of their videos.

Obscurity Files #15 - The Sure Thing

SLACKER Obscurity Files aims to put the spotlight onto a series of films that time and audiences have otherwise forgotten. Leap Year is out on DVD this week, but that's crap. As it borrows heavily (ahem, steals) from The Sure Thing, everyone should go and find a copy of that to watch instead. Here, let me persuade you.

Let Me Think For Myself Facebook!

I'm sure everyone's noticed the newest addition to Facebook. Down the right hand column it has a section called recommended pages, based on the things that your friends like.
More often than not, it keeps throwing things at me that I couldn't care less about, but it's interesting to see which two random things Facebook think I will like, purely based on the social and economic patterns of people I have in my friend feed.
Sometimes it gives me two things I have no interest in, and sometimes it might give me one good and one bad.

Don't ask which one's which. As well as trying to assign me a personality based on the things my friends like it also offers me up some wonderful suggestions based on things I've already said I liked, such as this gem...

Thanks Facebook, that's helpful.

The Magic Is Back...Again!!!

I saw the DVD cover for the new Nanny McPhee movie today, and I couldn't help but notice the tagline...

I knew I'd seen that tagline somewhere else.

I'm just saying... That's a bit weird isn't it? Best hope Mel doesn't find out.

Films I Don't Want To See

If someone held you at gunpoint and said you had to watch one of these three movies, which one would you choose?

Ha ha! Trick question...

Those classy bastards at Asylum have done it again, creating a film based on Edgar Wright Burroughs' John Carter of Mars. Titled Princess of Mars in the US but with an attempt to link it to Avatar with a box quote, they decided to go the whole hog and change the title to Avatar From Mars for its UK release. Look! They've just coloured the original cover in blue! They've even used the same font!

However, they must have decided that was one step too far (or more likely were threatened with a lawsuit), and so now we've ending up with a new title, the dull sounding THE MARTIAN COLONY WARS.

Either way this film looks crap, and as it's made by the Asylum...

It will be crap.

GLEE-MAIL

I just received an earth shattering email, the contents of which will change my life forever.

OMG! Even though it bears little to no cultural relevance to this country, it looks great! When's it out?

LOL! Oh, I'm not sure I can wait that long... Who's in it?

MEGALOLZ! There's Jane Lynch! Her and Michael Keaton look like they're doing the Timewarp or some shit! And who's the hilariously clingy kid?

ROFL! Even though it probably bears no similarity, they've chosen to use a photo of Sue Sylvester from Glee as the primary selling point of this movie! Maybe they should repackage all of her previous work that way to try and sell more copies!

How's about...
Or maybe...

No, in fact, that's a stupid idea. Why not just admit that Post-Grad looks crap?
