THOR! Huuh! What is it good for?

Well, good old Iron Man hit Cinemas across most of the world today (sorry USA, you only made the film), and it's led to a bunch of new Superhero movie news.
First up we got the first Official image of Thor. No real surprise here; it's another Marvel property and i'm sure they'd like to create as many associations between it and Iron Man as possible.

The suit's a bit odd looking (a bit plasticky and there's no sight of his hammer or helmet), and the photo doesn't give an awful lot away, but we'll no doubt get more from the set as filming progresses.

Also, not to be outdone, Warner Bros and DC have announced a release date for the as yet untitled third Batman film. IMAX kind of gave a hint of an upcoming announcement when they mentioned a third Batman film in their new Warner Bros screening deal, but nothing was set in stone, until now. The release date is going to be...

Way to sell that new technology Cineworld!

Construction of sentence good says me.

Runaways

Several sites are reporting today that Peter Sollett, director of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and Raising Victor Vargas is in the running for taking the helm of Marvel's Runaways adaptation. Personally i can't see this happening. Sollett is definitely a talented Director and i admire both the feature films he's made so far, but he's a bit too much of a left-field choice in my eyes. Joss Whedon also has his name up for consideration, and seeing as he's written for the comics and handled a larger budget before, he seems like the more appealing option.
Marvel have made it known that they do like to pick the slightly less obvious option when choosing a director (Kenneth Branagh for Thor being a prime example), so maybe there's some weight to this. Only time will tell.

iCheckMovies.com

They say you need to have goals in life and mine is to complete the iMDb top 250. I printed the list out a few years ago and began checking them off one by one. Over the years this list has got lost a couple of times, resulting in my inability to remember whether i've watched a certain movie or not (I don't usually forget if i've seen a film but i didn't NEED to remember, i had it written down!) When i later find the list again i'm often surprised to find films checked off. Well now my worries are over as someone's going to keep my completed list in a safe place on the internet. iCheckMovies.com has numerous lists that are constantly updating and cross-referencing themselves meaning you're completing one list whilst filling in another!

It's good to know how many of Roger Ebert's favourite films i've seen and how many of those are included in the BFI or AFI's top 100 lists. Only problem is i've got less than 75 to go before i complete my top 250, then i'm going to have to complete all the other lists. Check it out.

Directory Of World Cinema

If you're looking to expand your knowledge of American Indie Cinema then for a limited time you can download the first volume of the Directory of World Cinema, completely free of charge at http://bit.ly/bc8WUm. It's packed full of interviews with new and established indie filmmakers like John Waters and Richard Linklater, and covers Directors, Composers etc. At over 300 pages there's plenty of interesting things to be found (including a whole section about Slackers and their portrayal on screen). I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for the future installments.

hit RECord

Okay so first post and i'm just learning how to do this! Gonna start off with what i know and what i can recommend. Head over to hitRECord.org and check out the videos that are being uploaded. It's basically a web-community video project being overseen by Joseph Gordon Levitt, and there is new content all the time. I can recommend the new Morgan M. Morgansen's Date with Destiny video that stars JGL himself. It's an affectionate stylistic nod to Georges Melies 'Le Voyage dans la Lune' and has a voiceover (by Levitt) that brings to mind Jean-Pierre Jeunet's 'Amelie' and Rian Johnson's 'Brothers Bloom'. Check it out.
